Trustee Millie Turner presents Brynley with her winning poster.
Brynley Dickenson, Grade 5 student from Ridgevalley School (RVS), has won the Student Transportation Association of Alberta’s (STAA) School Bus Safety Week art contest. Students throughout the province were invited to design a poster showcasing the theme The Bus Rules. The art contest was open to students in Kindergarten through Grade 6; Brynley placed first in the Grade 5 category.
Brynley says she is very excited about winning the contest and was surprised to learn she was the first RVS student to ever win. “As a bus rider I wanted to share a friendly message about bus safety. It’s important for everyone to understand.” Brynley’s framed poster is now proudly displayed at the school.
Trustee Millie Turner says she is thrilled for Brynley. “I drove the school bus for Ridgevalley School for nearly 30 years. It’s incredible to see Brynley being recognized for something so close to my heart.” Trustee Turner acknowledged Brynley’s hard work and dedication to safety when she presented Brynley with her winning poster.
The School Bus Safety Week art contest is an annual event, hosted by the STAA, to raise awareness of bus safety among young riders. As this year’s winner, Brynley has received her framed poster, $150 for her class, and a $50 gift card to Indigo.
