Dear Parents and Guardians,
The current province-wide strike and lockout are set to continue for a second week, and schools will remain closed until an agreement is reached between the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA).
Last week, the Province announced it would be offering families financial support during the labour action. To apply, please visit the Parent supports during school closure webpage; the portal will open on Tuesday, October 14. You will need your child’s Alberta Student Number (ASN). You can find the ASN on the latest report card, or by signing into your PowerSchool account.
Finding your ASN in PowerSchool:
- Log in to the Parent Portal Account on a web browser. You will not be able to find the ASN when using the PowerSchool mobile app.
- Once signed in, navigate to the Left Navigation Menu and find "Report Card".
- Once in the report card module, click on the Name of the report card, which will open the report card in a new tab. The ASN can be found in the middle of the report card next to the grade and school year.
- If you are unable to find the ASN please do not hesitate to contact your school or Central Office.
Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides, recently shared a letter to all parents regarding supports available to families during the strike. You can find his letter on our website, or by clicking here. For the most up-to-date information, please visit the PWPSD Alberta Teachers’ Association Labour Action webpage and/or Facebook page.
I also want to let you know that while our schools remain closed, you may notice PWPSD school buses on the road. Once a week, our bus drivers will run their bus to ensure they are ready to return to school when the strike ends.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this challenging time. I hope an agreement is reached soon, and look forward to seeing all our teachers and students back at school. I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving weekend.
Sincerely,
Shawn O’Shea
