Curriculum and Instruction

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) offers an array of educational services to effectively support all our students. As District Principal of Educational Services, Mr. Mike Lauzon is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Grade 7-12 curriculum, development and utilization of locally-developed courses and dual credit programs, and administration of Diplomas and Provincial Achievement Tests.

Alternative Education

PWPSD offers students opportunities to successfully complete their education their way. Through the Peace Academy of Virtual Education, Peace Wapiti Enterprise Centre, and Home Education programs our educators strive to provide the best delivery method for each student.
 
Peace Academy of Virtual Education (PAVE) follows the Alberta Program of Studies and is led by Alberta-certified teachers working closely with students and their families. PAVE is available to students in Grades 7-9.
 
Peace Wapiti Enterprise Centre (PWEC) is an outreach school that offers a range of flexible program options for students in Grades 10-12.
 
Home Education works with parents of students in Grades 1-12 who have opted to pursue parent-directed home education programming that adheres to the provincial Home Education Regulation.
 

Community School Liaison Workers

Community School Liaison Workers (CSLWs) provide information and support to families whose children are experiencing difficulties at home or at school; to cooperate with school staff and community agencies to prevent the breakdown of family-child-school relationships. Referral forms and further information are available at the school and may come from the school, family or individual.

Curriculum Coordinators (Literacy and Numeracy)

Dual Credit Program

The Dual Credit Program at PWPSD creates opportunities for students to earn credits in high school and post-secondary institutions at the same time, as well as opportunities for post-secondary course exemption and workplace certification.
 

Education Technology

PWPSD's Education Technology Coaches offer current and new technology support services to teachers, including group presentations, one-on-one working sessions, classroom mentoring, and leadership.
 

Indigenous Education Services

Indigenous Education Services functions to support the positive experiences and success of Indigenous students. 
 

Information Technology

PWPSD's Information Technology Support Team offers technology services to office sites and schools.
 

Kindergarten

Early Childhood Services (ECS) or Kindergarten programs are offered by most elementary schools in the division. Kindergarten programs run 475 hours according to provincial guidelines, while playschool hours vary from site-to-site. Program Unit Funding (PUF) is available for 3-year-olds who have severe delays. Programming may also be available for 4-year-olds who have a mild/moderate delay.
